The compliment that you gave to your neighbour this morning regarding his new shoes cased a big smile on his face the entire day. This smile worked contagiously on his colleagues, friends and family. Such as small gesture with such a great impact on another person and the surrounding…. That makes us think about all the consequences of all our small actions.
When management makes a decision, it can have significant consequences for the entire company. For example the choice to open or shut down a business location. This does not only impact the financial situation of the company but also has an impact on a social level. Regarding employment opportunities. Another example is when a manager expresses a leadership style, focussing on quality. With this style the leader develops trust, optimism, hope and resilience among employees, which can lead to an increased individual and organisational performance. However, influencing people can also be done through very small things. Think about arriving in time or not or parking the car where this is prohibited. A business leader acts as example for other employees and in a lot of cases colleagues copy the behaviour of their (informal) leader.
Also when performing small actions yourself, such as listening sincerely to colleague’s, sharing information, or asking questions about other people’s thoughts about a specific topic, this all can lead to the emergence of better ideas and insights. Together people contribute to a creative process by challenging and complementing each other. Together we know more than we do alone. And everyone can help to make a difference!

Only focussing on the bigger picture can lead to being too silo focused. Therefore, sometimes “zooming out” is very important as well. Without zooming out people can become too obsessed by details. And at the workplace people are often used to perform actions blindly in a specific way, while a small change in the way of working or thinking can open a new perspective. Imagine an outsider with fresh and clear thoughts by which a project can get a completely other turn. Our practice aims at providing fresh and innovative insights into businesses. In this way, we make a difference to our clients.
