The compliment that you gave to your neighbour this morning regarding his new shoes cased a big smile on his face the entire day. This smile worked contagiously on his colleagues, friends and family. Such as small gesture with such a great impact on another person and the surrounding…. That makes us think about all the consequences of all our small actions.
In our team meetings we talk about work, but clearly we also share personal matters. What have you been up to? What’s keeping you busy? Coincidentally some team members are in the middle of moving houses, including myself. And of course a story about a delivery that goes wrong has more attention than one that went well.
As you probably noticed in the (social) media: Albert Heijn is going to open a store in which you don’t have to pass by a cash register to pay for your groceries. Only a pass holding in front of the shelfs is sufficient to make sure the due amount is being paid within ten minutes. No more long queues. But also no cashiers anymore in such a settling.

Nowadays, many organizations have to deal with high absenteeism rates. Research of NRC and Bureau interview NSS, among others, shows that 60% to 80% of all absenteeism has nothing to do with sickness, but with demotivation, labour conflicts, high workloads, lack of pleasure in work, and involvement with the company.
Most of the time we concern ourselves with who and what we want to be(come). Then I hear my five-year-old daughter singing Barbie extremely loud:
